Warning to plan May bank holiday travel now as ‘a number of trains’ affected and change to stations

Londoners have been urged to start planning their bank holiday weekend journeys now as a number of trains will be affected that weekend. Network Rail has shared the reminder that it will carry out engineering work between Farringdon and Loughborough Junction, Blackfriars and Herne Hill and also between Battersea Pier and Factory Junction.

It means that on Sunday, May 5, no Thameslink services will run to or from Wimbledon and Suttonand Sevenoaks services will be modified to run from London Victoria instead of London Blackfriars. And work in between Shepherd’s bush and Watford Junction means there will be no southbound service on that route between 8pm on Saturday 4 May and midday on Sunday 5 May, or Sunday evening from 9pm.

Tickets will be accepted on the London Underground. Scott Brightwell, Director of Operations and Security South East, said: “We have almost a full service this bank holiday weekend and customers can travel to all the major destinations on our route.

“We have some timetable changes on Sunday, but there are bus services running between the affected stations. As always, check before you travel and enjoy the long weekend wherever you go.”

Jenny Saunders, Customer Service Director for Govia Thameslink Railway, said: “Network Rail’s essential improvements and repairs over the Bank Holiday weekend will affect a number of Southern and Thameslink services in Kent, Hampshire and South London, so we are Thanks to our customers for their patience and understanding. Buses will replace trains on some routes, so please allow extra time when planning your journey, and remember to double check before you leave.
