Rooster outshines all in pet fun walk

GEORGE TOWN: In a sea of dogs Jiji the rooster stood out, leaning on his owner’s arm as he enjoyed a fun pet walk.

Joining the 2km walk, the white Japanese Bantam was the center of attention, with people marveling at how interactive and brave it was.

Jiji’s owner Goh Mei Hoe, 33, said he bought the rooster three years ago during the pandemic.

“He’s not my first rooster, so I knew what I was getting into when I got him. We take him out to pet-friendly places, so he’s comfortable being out in public.

“It’s easy because there are pet diapers made especially for roosters that we buy online, so we don’t have to worry when we take it off,” he said when met during the Paw Paw Walk held at the Queens Waterfront Q2 in Bayan Lepas Sunday. .

Goh, a pharmacist, said she is always looking for events and cafes to take Jiji, who has a white feathered body with a red comb.

“We came all the way from Kedah to join the fun walk.

“We have not put him on a leash and he is free to mix as he usually comes to us when he is called.

“Jiji is also not afraid of dogs and likes to make friends. He eats normal chicken feed,” Goh said, adding that his family adores Jiji and their life revolves around him.

Nurse Nurfatin Zafirah Zulkarnain, 30, who was one of the few to bring a cat to the event, said it was the first time she and three-year-old Cinta had joined a pet walk.

“I saw it advertised online and knew we had to join. I brought Cinta in her cat bag, but I was hoping to let her out and walk on a leash.

“He was afraid that he had never seen so many dogs, so he stayed in the bag,” said Nurfatin.

Fascinated by the number of different dog breeds, Nurfatin said she enjoyed the experience and would definitely participate in more walks.

“It was fun for me as now I’ve seen so many different types of dogs. It’s a good experience and a healthy way to start my morning,” he said.

Christine Tan, 24, who brought three of her five dogs, said she took them out quite often.

“I have a cafe that accepts animals, so it’s normal for me. I had to bring a dog stroller as two of my puppies are six months old and they didn’t want to walk.

“They are Maltipoos (a mix of a Maltese and a poodle),” he said.

The event organized by Occupy Beach Street (TLM Event) saw about 1,000 participants appear with their pets, mostly dogs, dressed in various costumes, including a Dachshund in a hotdog costume, a mongrel wearing sunglasses and others in lots of fun accessories.
