Unveiling Ramadan travel trends 2024 for the UAE

Dubai, UAE: Wego, the largest online travel marketplace in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), reveals the top travel trends for Ramadan 2024 in the UAE.

The holiday season is just around the corner, and Wego has noticed a spike in demand for flight and hotel bookings from the UAE ahead of the festive season.

International flight bookings show promising growth

According to Wego data, international flight bookings from the United Arab Emirates for travel in February exceeded the numbers during the same period last year by 70.1%.

The consecutive occurrence of Ramadan, Eid al Fitr and spring break in 2024 is expected to encourage the same annual jump in bookings for scheduled trips in the coming months.

Increase flight prices

As we enter the holy month of Ramadan, Wego data has shown that airfares to some destinations may be even more expensive this year.

The average airfare to the Philippines, a favorite destination for UAE travelers, is now AED 1,331.93, compared to AED 895.56 in 2023.

Meanwhile, average annual prices for flights to the United Kingdom and Germany have increased by 23.88% and 60.42% respectively.

Wego anticipates that ticket prices to popular destinations will continue to rise, especially with more families potentially planning vacation getaways.

Increase in hotel occupancy and room rates

Amidst a busy month full of significant events such as the Gulfood fair, the Dubai Duty Free tennis championships among others, Dubai observed an increase in hotel occupancy rates in February 2024, with the bookings on Wego surpassing last year’s figures by 23.2%. At the same time, Dubai’s average hotel room rates experienced an annual growth of 20.3%.

Dubai hotel occupancy and daily rates may still move on an upward trajectory in the coming months, as Wego data indicates that room requests among UAE residents typically increase even during Ramadan weekends and Eid al Fitr holidays.

High travel interest for Eid this year

Eid al Fitr in the UAE this year is expected to witness a jump in outbound air traffic compared to last year’s Eid. Wego observed a nearly four-fold increase in flight searches from the UAE to travel during Eid 2024 compared to Eid 2023.

Wego anticipates even higher interest later as more UAE travelers finalize their travel arrangements in the weeks or days leading up to the celebration.

Top destinations for UAE travelers during Eid al Fitr

Based on Wego’s data, India, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Jordan are the most searched destinations for travel between March and April 2024. The list of countries may suggest domestic travel for large communities of UAE expats looking to capitalize on long vacations. .
