People Get New Wheels at the 16th Annual ‘Continental Bike Swap’

DULUTH, Minn. – For people who prefer to get around on two wheels, the 16th Annual Continental Bike Swap was the place to be this weekend.

Every year, Cross-country skiing and cycling is hosting the event at its store on E 1st Street in Duluth.

On Friday, people dropped off cheap bikes to sell or donate to the Bike Swap.

So on Saturday and Sunday, all bikes are available for purchase.

Bikes that are put up for sale by owners will get a percentage, with the rest going to this year’s charity, the Duluth Devo Bike Program.

About 300 bikes were sold on Saturday and more than 200 were still available today.

“All the bikes that come in are checked by our mechanics. So we keep the bikes out of the landfill, we get them out of people’s garages. When the kids grow up, they can upgrade their bike, fix their bike, recycle the his bike,” Mel Rajkowski, Bike Swap Volunteer Coordinator.

There were many types of bikes for sale from road, mountain and children’s bikes, along with many more, that are suitable for the dozens of miles of bike paths that are here in Duluth.

FOX 21’s Dan Hanger hosted Saturday’s Bike Swap.
