This year’s theme for the Met Gala derives from the The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute the latest exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”.

The theme of 2024 goes hand in hand the dress codenicknamed “The Garden of Time”.
The Met Gala dress code is usual interpreted quite freely by the host and is used as a starting point for clothes, making for some memorable red carpet moments.
What exhibition celebrates the theme of the Met Gala 2024?
“Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” is the name of the exhibition Met Gala will be celebrated.

What does “The Garden of Time” have to do with Sleeping Beauty?
“Sleeping Beauty” is a classic fairy tale about a beautiful princess who is sent into a magical sleep only to be awakened by the kiss of her true love. It is often interpreted as how true love will conquer all.
“The Garden of Time” is a short story by JG Ballard about a couple living in a beautiful house.
A crowd is slowly making its way towards them, bringing destruction. In the couple’s garden grow the “flowers of time”, and each one that is removed sends the mob back in time, further from their inevitable arrival at their home. But the garden is no longer growing new flowers, and the destruction of their exquisite home and life together is inevitable.

The exhibition itself, like a garden, will also be a multisensory experience, designed to stimulate all the senses. The galleries will be arranged “exploring a different theme inspired by the natural world,” the Met said. For example, the floors of one space of the gallery will be animated with snakes, and the ceiling of the other with a projection of birds.
“The exhibition will be punctuated by a series of “sleeping beauties” – clothes that can no longer be dressed on mannequins due to their extreme fragility – which will be displayed in glass “coffins” that will allow visitors to analyze their different states of deterioration as under a microscope,” said the Met.
What have been the past themes of the Met Gala through the years?
The Met Gala had it many memorable themes over the years. Last year’s theme honored fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld.
