SINGAPORE: Power has been restored at the Johor Bahru checkpoint across the Causeway after an hours-long outage that lasted until Wednesday (Dec 6), disrupting traffic between Malaysia and Singapore.
According to the Star, citing Johor Immigration Department director Baharuddin Tahir, all agencies in the building are inspecting their systems to ensure there are no problems following the disruption.
He added that during the blackout, officers at the immigration counters in the building, known as the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex (BSI CIQ), had to do manual checks.
In an update at 4pm, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority of Singapore (ICA) said the network of traffic departing from Malaysia at Woodlands Checkpoint has been reduced.
There was a power outage at the Johor Bahru checkpoint resulting in long queues for travelers earlier in the day.
According to travelers on social media, the power outage also caused the electronic gate (e-gate) facilities to go down.
Singapore’s Chinese daily Lianhe Zaobao said the outage began at midnight on Tuesday.
Photos and videos on social media show long lines in the departure hall, with many travelers waiting in the dark. The videos also show motorcyclists stuck in a traffic jam at around 8.30am.
