New Delhi: On Tuesday, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) started the process of engaging a private company to undertake the development of play and exercise amenities for the upcoming pet park in the second phase of Jangpura. This includes operating a facility such as a pet store.

The park, located next to the Jangpura-Defence Colony flyover and covering an area of one acre, currently features a dedicated enclosure with dog toys. Additionally, the entrance to the park displays replicas of various dog breeds, while the entire space features graffiti and street art depicting dogs.

During the initial stage, the park underwent a partial development using more shipping containers, which were transformed into a veterinary clinic, a grooming center and a cafeteria. This transformation was done at an approximate cost of Rs 55 lakh, with funding provided by the Container Corporation of India (CONCOR).

Operator to be hired soon

Now, according to the recent announcement, the next phase will include the appointment of the operator for a five-year term, as well as the landscaping of the area, incorporating features such as mountains, diving areas and water stations. refuse Officials indicated that the operator’s duties will extend to organizing meetings and animal exhibitions to enhance interaction with pet owners in the city.

A senior official of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), involved in the development of the park, said that the selection process for hiring an operator is set to conclude on April 3. The selected candidate will have three months to establish amenities in the park. .

“The operator will be expected to start the operation of the souvenir shop, the food for the animals and the cafeteria. They will also add exercise and play areas, which have been designed to help the dogs provide ample exercise and game opportunities,” the official said, as reported by the Hindustan Times.

Rules for entering the park:

  • Only registered animals are allowed.
  • Dogs that are up to date on their vaccinations will be allowed.
  • Ban on all puppies under four months.
  • Access to aggressive animals will be denied.
  • Pets with lead collars will be prohibited from entering the park.

“A safe space for humans and dogs”

“Pets will be required to be on a leash while entering and leaving the park, but there are enclosed off-leash areas inside. We have sent identification collars for dogs, and a limit of a maximum of two dogs per person per visit,” the official added.

Nidhi Sharma, an animal rights activist, said dog owners face problems while taking their pets for a walk. “Dogs also need open space to roam and undergo physical activity, which cannot be achieved in local parks where pet owners are often forced to keep their dogs leashed or even muzzled. MCD has need to develop more such parks in other parts of the city. The entry fee should be kept nominal and the revenue should be used to develop more such parks,” he said, as reported by the Hindustan Times.
