Buc-ee’s could soon come to the Mid-South | News

FAYETTE COUNTY, Tenn. – The iconic chain known for Beaver Nuggets, brisket and clean bathrooms could soon open a mega travel store in the Mid-South.

“We are in negotiations with them,” Fayette County Mayor Rhea “Skip” Taylor said Wednesday.

He told FOX13 it would be “premature” to say the channel is open.

“There are a lot of plans,” he said. “It looks very promising. There are economic development packages that we are working on. But as it stands now, we are both on the same page and we are going down the same path.”

Tennessee State Senators Page Walley had posted a flyer on Facebook Wednesday morning that seemed to demonstrate the company’s plans to open a location on Interstate 40 off Exit 28, near the city of Gallaway.

The caption read: “BUC-EE’S-WELCOME TO FAYETTE COUNTY!!! Another great economic and business success for our District.”

Mayor Taylor joked that it was “the worst kept secret” in Fayette County.

“It’s a very big deal if we can close this,” he said.

Residents in nearby Somerville were excited about the possibility of new jobs and economic growth in the region.

“You’ve got to be kidding me!” explained Robert Holmes, a Somerville resident. “I imagine a lot of people will come in and spend some money.”

“It’s going to help a lot,” said Lakachia Hale, an Oakland resident.

Mayor Taylor told FOX13 it will be on the northeast corner of exit 28 off I-40. He said Buc-ee’s typically brings in about 5 million visitors a year, citing the company’s numbers. I was hoping to have more information by the end of May.

“It would be a huge game changer for the town of Gallaway,” he said. “It would be a huge economic boost.”
