We responded to Olive Garden just this afternoon for a report of a man brandishing a gun making threats and the restaurant has already self-evacuated. Duquesne PD, Newton County Sheriffs Office, Missouri Highway Patrol, Joplin Fire, Newton County Ambulance and others also arrived to assist. We spoke to people coming out and employees and determined that the restaurant was empty, with conflicting information about the suspect’s location and conflicting information about his actions, and if he even had a gun. With the suspect possibly on the loose, attempts to make contact safely failed. Officers carefully cleared the business and found no one inside. We do not know who the male is that created the concerns. Anyone who was present who has information please call us at 417-623-3131. There were no injuries to anyone and no force used or damage caused. We are still investigating.
