Volunteers needed for holiday bike build to benefit area families

The public is invited to enjoy a community event with music, Santa and refreshments as they help assemble 800 bikes that will go to eight community organizations that provide holiday bikes to families in need. More than 150 volunteers are needed for the event.

The event is part of Scott Campbell’s Christmas Promise and is supported by Waste Connections as he was a long-time employee. Campbell started the bike build 13 years ago with 100 bikes, 20 volunteers and a wish that every child who asked Santa for a bike on Christmas morning could receive one, a release said. The event has now become an annual tradition that brings the community together to give back to those in need by building bicycles.

Campbell died six years ago, the release said.

This year, the event is supported by the Ed and Dollie Lynch Foundation, the Cowlitz Tribe Foundation, the Main Event Restaurant, Beaches, NW Natural, Riverview Bank and the J. Scott Campbell Foundation.
