Shropshire in top five regions for homes with the most garden space

Company MG Timber and Online Marketing Surgery have used data from the Office for National Statistics to develop a garden space report which reveals the regions in the UK with the largest private outdoor space offered by their properties.

Three of the top five places go to areas in the south-west, with Cornwall emerging as the undisputed leader in the home garden space.

Boasting a vast private garden area of 103,535,976 m² it catapulted Cornwall into a league of its own, surpassing its nearest contender by more than 15,000,000 m².

In second place, Wiltshire offers 87,565,954 m² of garden space at home followed by Dorset with 74,818,900 m².

A surprising quarter and breaking the southwest streak, Birmingham emerges as a lively urban oasis with 71,740,420 m².

But in fifth place is our own county of Shropshire, boasting a green house area of 68,912,080m². With a population of 323,600 – this means that there is an average of 212.95 m² per person.

The bottom of the list, which reveals the areas with the least garden space at home is – to no one’s surprise – the City of London, with a small private garden space of 380 m².

The capital makes up most of the bottom 20, with the exception of the Isles of Scilly, which undoubtedly has more to do with the small size of the archipelago than anything else.
