Rohit Sharma explains reason behind ‘koi garden mai nahi ghumega’ comment: ‘That’s how I am. It’s not to hurt anyone’ | Cricket News

Indian captain Rohit Sharma delivered several stump-mic gems throughout the course of the India-England Test series. In particular, his Hindi one-liner during the Visakhapatnam Test, “Koi garden mai nahi ghumega (No one will wander in the garden).” The phrase attracted more attention when Sharma posted a photo on his Instagram alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sarfaraz Khan, Shubman Gill and Dhruv Jurel, which was captioned on the same line.

The Indian skipper finally took to break the idea behind the same. Recalling the recently concluded series in a video on Team Ro45’s Instagram channel, Rohit suggested that it was to ensure that all the players are quick on their feet and get the job done.

“Sometimes I say things that are caught on the stump microphone. But it’s me, that’s how I am. It’s not to hurt anyone, but just to make sure that they are in the job, they think about the team and make a difference in the camp. And I was very pleased to see everyone engaged in it. This is all about me trying to tell them ki bhai, koi yaha pe ghumega nahi. Just make sure you don’t forget the job at hand,” said Rohit.

Also, laying down what everyone was limiting their mannerisms on the tone, Rohit added, “Whether I was yelling at them, whether it was to make Sarfaraz stand in a position, whether Jurel was telling me, ‘Bhai, isko aage bhadao , stumping nikalke dikha. (Advance the batsman, perform a stumping)”.

How Sarfaraz Khan predicted Ollie Pope’s sacking

The Indian skipper also spilled the beans on Jurel’s stumping of Ollie Pope in the fifth Test, conceding that it was Sarfaraz Khan – fielding at short leg – who had predicted the England vice-captain would advance down the track.

“By the way, that stumping was brilliant. Sarfaraz Khan he was the one who predicted that. I placed it a little higher, at short leg, when he said, “Now, leave the crease.” Be ready for a stumping. Next ball…brilliant,” said Rohit before conceding, “I really enjoyed playing with these guys. I hope that in the future, we will play a lot more.”
