Resident, pet displaced by house fire in Kansas City’s Northland

A person and their pet are looking for new housing after a fire in Kansas City’s Northland on Sunday. The Kansas City Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 5200 block of North Smalley at 8:00 am. smoke on arrival and began internal offensive operations. Firefighters also discovered a heavy fire in the basement that then spread through the walls to the attic. Searches of the structure came back all clear. The occupant and their pet were able to self-evacuate safely. The Red Cross was ordered for one adult and one dog. Dangerous buildings are also ordered. The cause of the fire is under investigation by KCFD.

Fire crews on scene reported heavy smoke upon arrival and initiated interior offensive operations. Firefighters also discovered a heavy fire in the basement that then spread through the walls to the attic.

Searches of the structure came back all clear. The occupant and their pet were able to self-evacuate safely. The Red Cross was ordered for one adult and one dog.
