Leader Advertising sales representative Jenna Heckethorn, Festus area, submitted this photo of herself with her peregrine-falcon hybrid, Lucy, a rescue pet she nursed back to health.
Heckethorn said Lucy is featured in presentations she does for Party Paws Mobile Zoo, a nonprofit that operates to raise money for the nonprofit group Raptor Rescue Inc. based at Imperial, an organization that supports.
“Party Paws is a regular business,” he said. “All profits go to Raptor Rescue Inc.”
She estimates that Lucy is 8 to 10 years old.
“I use Lucy as part of my education program,” Heckethorn said. “We had it about a year ago. She was in terrible shape. She had been tied to a post for six years in Texas. She suffers from PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder).
“She’s fine. Her weight is supported. She has new feathers.”
She said that she and Lucy became attached.
“She flies, I handled her,” said Heckethorn. “She and I are close. She is very protective.”
She said that Lucy seems to give special attention to children with disabilities.
