KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Owning a pet can be expensive. In the current economy, it has caused a few Kansas City pet owners to give up their furry friends.

That’s why metro Kansas City pet welfare agencies are banding together today to help keep your pets indoors and warm this winter.

The cars were first lined up for the third annual Pet Warmth project today at the Linwood YMCA.

Project KC Pet and Animal Resource Center of Kansas City were among the agencies distributing dog and cat houses, straw and pet food in the community.

Animal shelters are so crowded in the metro that it is important for them to provide every resource possible to keep animals and their owners together.

“We know there are pets that live outside in KC, so we want to be able to provide the supplies they need, like dog houses that are really stable and can get out of the elements both in the winter and in the summer said Tori. Running away with the KC Pet Project.

“Cat houses that they can put out for their community cats to live in. Things like spay and neuter and good food and food assistance. These are the things that KC pet owners really need assistance now.

Both the KC Pet Project and the Pet Resource Center have other special events aimed at helping overcrowded shelters in December.

KC Pet Project is running its special “Home for the Holidays” adoption starting next Friday. Most of the animals in the shelter cost only 30 dollars to adopt.

And the Pet Resource Center is having a special drive-through vaccination clinic next Saturday where dogs and cats can get all their vaccines plus microchipping for just 40 dollars.

They also have deep discounts in December and January on spay and neuter packages. For more information, visit their websites: Project KC Pet and Animal Resource Center.
