The map shows yellow travel advisories in counties across the state — west, north and southeast — as another winter storm moves through central Indiana. Forecasters expect to see 1″ to 3″ on the ground by noon Friday as an arctic front moves into the Hoosier State.

The department compiles the travel status for each of Indiana’s 92 counties on its website, although individual emergency management agencies make the call locally. The three travel warnings in order of severity are: advisory (yellow), watch (orange) and warning (red). The IDHS distinguishes each warning based on the following criteria:

Tip (yellow): Travel or routine activities may be restricted in areas due to a hazardous situation, and individuals should be careful or avoid those areas.

Watch (orange): Only essential trips, such as to and from work or in emergency situations, is recommended. Emergency action plans must be implemented by businesses, schools, government agencies and other organizations.

Warning (Red): Travel may be limited to emergency management. the workers alone. All other motorists should: refrain from all travel; comply with the necessary emergency measures; cooperate with public officials and disaster services forces in the execution of emergency operations plans; and obey and comply with the lawful directions of properly identified officers.
