Here are the new bike lanes Toronto is due to get in the next few months

Toronto has seriously increased its cycling infrastructure in recent years, for the celebration of some and pain of othersand another set of bike lanes was considered for implementation on the streets in different areas of the city before the end of this year.

Proposed by the Infrastructure and Environment Committee and going to the City Council on Wednesday, the new courses are just part of a larger plan for the cycling network that has been enriched with new sidewalks that complete the links missing for cyclists and pedestrians in some areas.

The portions of the road that are planned for new bike lanes, pending the deliberation of the council, are:

  • Ferrand Drive from Rochefort Drive West to Rochefort Drive East and on Eglinton Avenue East (one-way bike lanes and counter-flow bike lanes at Eglinton)
  • Rochefort Drive from Don Mills Road to Deauville Lane (one-way cycle lane)
  • Deauville Lane from Rochefort Drive to St. Dennis Drive (one-way bike lane)
  • Galloway Road from Guildwood Parkway to Dearham Wood (cycleway)
  • Dan Leckie Way from Queens Quay West to Queens Wharf Road (two-way circuits)
  • Portland Street from Queen Street West to Front Street West (two-way circuits)
  • Silverthorn Avenue from Rogers Road to Lane North St. Clair East Cloverdale (contra-flow bike path)
  • Rockwell Avenue from Silverthorn Avenue (west branch) to Silverthorn Avenue (east branch) (two-way bike lane)
  • Blackthorn Avenue from Rogers Road to Rockwell Avenue (contra-flow bike lane)
  • Pine Street (west side) from Wright Avenue to Church Street (bike lane) and Pine Street (east side) from Wright Avenue to King Street (bike lane)
  • Richmond Street from Augusta Avenue to Portland Street (two-way track)
  • Jones Avenue from Queen Street to Dundas Street (one-way bike lane)

Mandatory stop checks in all directions are also suggested for some of the above intersections, along with speed limit reductions and some other changes in line with the city’s Vision Zero campaign to make streets safer for pedestrians and those on two wheels.
