Expect heavy snowfall along all major routes south of Calgary by Saturday night, with clouds likely in Calgary proper.

We will see the snow lift in the north Red Deer, Oyen, and southwestern Saskatchewan as of Sunday morning. Expect snow to continue here through the day, moving north into Edmonton and Cold Lake by evening.

Precipitation will continue to spread from west to east through Monday, bringing rain Saskatoon and Prince Albert as the low pressure system moves into northern Manitoba.

Prairie snow totals

We will see general totals of 5-10 cm closer to Calgary and Edmonton to the west and Saskatoon and Prince Albert to the east.

The heaviest snowfall totals are likely from southern Alberta to central and northern Saskatchewan, where 10-20 cm of snow is expected in communities such as Lethbridge, Medicine hat, and Oyen. Higher local totals are possible in the foothills near the US/Canada border.

Temperatures across the Prairies will drop below freezing with the start of this storm, remaining in minus territory for the rest of next week.
