Bosch e-bike systems introduced to Taiwan on Tern bikes

Bicycles Tern are now available for purchase in Taiwan, making it the first brand to sell a Bosch-e-bike equipped in the country. Starting with just two of the brand’s models, Tern Vektron and Quick Haul will be available via independent bikes nationwide.

In a press release issued by the bicycle manufacturer, Josh Hon, Captain of Team Tern, said: “Taiwan is the global epicenter for quality bicycles and the country has come a long way in promoting bicycles for the recreation and transportation.

“With a large part of Team Tern members calling Taiwan home, it was easy for us to raise our hands when Bosch suggested entering the Taiwan market. Our bikes also make the most sense for dense cities like Taipei where a compact e-bike is easier to drive and store.”

The move seems strategically well thought out by the brand with Taiwan increasingly embracing the use of bicycles for transportation. This has been supported by investment in bike lanes and other cycling infrastructure and the result has been a cultural shift in how cycling is viewed. This new demand for urban mobility solutions fits Tern’s philosophy.

Tern chose the Vekton and Quick Haul to introduce to the Taiwanese market first based on the solutions they provide. In the brand’s press release, it stated that “the award-winning Vektron folding electric bike stands out for its superior handling and unmatched storage convenience. The bike can be easily transported in cars, trains or buses, to explore the countryside Taiwan scenery beyond the city. And it fits easily in closets or cloakrooms for storage.

“The Quick Haul is a mid-tail cargo bike designed to handle everyday needs, whether it’s a school drop-off or the weekly shop. While it’s rugged enough to safely transport a passenger or manage 150 kg load, the Quick Haul is still smaller than a standard city bike. The bike also boasts Tern’s innovative Vertical Parking feature to simplify storage in tight spaces – just roll the bike into a lift and boot it in a corner of the apartment.

With storage often a concern for potential cycle users who have the option of a folding bike opens up a bike as a more practical option, especially for those who have to store a bike in a small apartment.

The Vektron uses Bosch’s performance line motor system to provide up to 65Nm of assistance while the Quick Haul uses Bosch’s Active line system which offers up to 50Nm of assistance to the rider.
