A rider going “nearly 30mph” on a Glasgow road was found to have been using a bicycle which was allegedly “modified into an electric bicycle”.

Glasgow officials say the rider collapsed on Broomielaw late last week.

They said they found the bike had been “modified” which required the rider to hold a license and insurance.

A 42-year-old man has been charged in connection with a number of alleged offences, including having no license or insurance and being in possession of class B drugs.

The force took the bike off the road.

A spokesman said: “The rider of this bike was observed traveling at almost 30mph on Broomielaw by officers from the Greater Glasgow Violence Reduction Unit.

“The bike had been modified, which now requires the rider to hold a license and insurance. Rider, 42, also in possession of class B drugs. Charged and bike seized.”
