ITS DOWNTOWN BIKE PATROL EAT BLANKETS ALL YEAR AS PART OF ITS BLANKET CAMPAIGN. THOSE BLANKETS ARE SPECIAL NEEDED IMMEDIATELY WHEN THE TEMPERATURE CONTINUES TO FALL. A SERGEANT SAYS. AS POLICE OFFICER, BEING OF SERVICE is who I am, and this is just another way they give back. WE DON’T WANT TO, YOU KNOW, FREEZE, YOU KNOW, OR, YOU KNOW, SUFFERING, YOU KNOW, HYPOTHERMIA OR ANYTHING. The Winston-Salem Police Department’s downtown bike patrol helps pass out blankets throughout the year as part of its blanket drive. Those blankets are especially needed now, though, as the temperature drops. Kevin Bowers, a sergeant with the downtown bike patrol, said that as police officers, being on duty is who they are, and this is just another way to give back. So it’s just something for us to be able to bring back,” Bowers said. Bowers added, “We don’t want anybody. to freeze, or suffer, you know, hypothermia or something like that. So if there’s anything we can do, make that connection and we’ll be able to help. Bowers said they get the blankets through donations from community members, without profits, churches and shelters. “We come in contact with, you know, a considerable number of people who are part of the homeless population, you know, without a home. So it’s just something for us to be able to give back,” Bowers said.

Bowers added, “We don’t want anybody to freeze, or suffer, you know, hypothermia or anything like that. So if it’s something we can do, make that connection and be able to help. You know, we’re going to do that.”
