Wander Womaniya is proud to be the most affordable women’s tour and travel organizer in the industry
The stereotype of women needing a male travel companion is fading fast. It’s no secret that Indian women are now adventuring alone or with girlfriends, exploring offbeat destinations, and indulging in adventure activities. But it is also true that this is the story of financially independent women in Tier 1 cities who have thrown off the shackles of patriarchy and are now charting their own course, both literally and metaphorically.
Wander Womaniya was founded in 2018
As it is said, change starts with a community. Therefore, it is somewhat unique how Wander Womaniya, a travel company that specializes in solo and group travel for women, is the creation of a man. But as Anuj Jain says, the desire to build a business for women came from a place of brotherly love. “I was passionate about traveling and wanted to explore the world, but I got stuck in a corporate job even though it was in the hospitality industry. One day, my sister wanted to go on a trip and we couldn’t find a safe group suitable for her to travel. This reality was the seed of the idea to start a safe and secure travel company only for women where parents will be confident to send their daughters to travel alone,” she shares.
Since its inception, the company has helped more than 1,000 women take their first trip to India, or even outside of India.
And that’s how Wander Womaniya found its footing in 2018. Today, they are proud to be the most affordable women’s tour and travel organizers in the industry, with trips starting at INR 5000. to a man pick up the phone at the office of a women-only travel company, Wander Womaniya promises travelers experiences of a lifetime.
But has the travel landscape or destination choice evolved in recent years? Jain believes it has, with a long way to go. “Initially, solo or group travel for women was limited to cliché destinations with very basic itineraries. However, we now cover destinations that were previously considered inaccessible to female travelers on their own. For example, the Philippines, Oman and Uzbekistan . Women these days aren’t afraid to take the road less traveled,” she shares.
If you are wondering why and how Wander Womaniya is different from a regular travel agency, then Anuj has the perfect explanation. “First of all, we have a tour friend on each trip who ensures that we prepare the women with destination-specific precautions to take, who acts as a bridge between the different service providers/locals/transporters so that the women they can focus on exploring the destination instead of worrying about logistics. Hence, security, a very big aspect that prevents many women from embarking on their first trip, is ensured.
Wander Womaniya also aims to support local communities and businesses during its tours
In addition to creating a community of female travelers, Wander Womaniya also aims to support local communities and businesses during their tours. “We try to include very local and authentic experiences in our itineraries. For example, in Agra, we take travelers to Sheroes Hangout Cafe which is run by acid attack survivors, or to the Kynd Community in Bali, which promoting veganism and contributing to charities in Indonesia,” Anuj shares.
Since its inception, the company has helped more than 1,000 women take their first trip just to India, or even outside of India. And find similar friends too. “The trip has also been a therapy for many women who come after a big setback, it could be personal or professional, and it has helped them overcome pain, grievance and sadness,” he adds.
