Woman jailed after throwing pet dog Princess off Perth rooftop carpark

A woman who threw her dog from a rooftop parking lot Perth he will spend at least 12 months behind bars.

The 26-year-old was caught on CCTV throwing Princess, a 10-year-old Maltese Shih-tzu, out of the two-storey car park in The Westfield Whitford City shopping centre on April 7, 2022.

The Princess fell nine meters from the roof and was found by a passerby, who thought she had been hit by a car.

The princess was taken to a veterinarian and found to be in shock, with severe injuries, including possible internal bleeding, brain injuries, and spinal and pelvic trauma.

The vet checked the dog’s microchip and contacted the 26-year-old woman, who was listed as its owner.

The offender went to the vet with his partner to discuss his dog’s injuries, but the Princess was euthanized.

In the CCTV, the woman can be seen hanging the Princess on the ledge and allowing her to walk on it while arguing with her partner for a period of about eight minutes.

After throwing the Princess, the woman seems to argue with her partner, who was sitting in a black car.

The partner is then seen walking away, leaving the woman alone on the roof.

After the incident, the owner confessed to the act Facebookaccording to the RSPCA WA.

“I can’t live with the guilt, I kicked my dog ​​out of the main story of a shopping center car park and watched him fall to his death but he survived and had to be put down because of how badly he I’m hurt,” the woman said in a screenshot of a post provided by RSPCA WA.

“I killed my dog… I did her a favor because all I did was hurt and abuse her.”

The post was later deleted, and the offender told an RSPCA inspector that his account had been hacked.

In sentencing the 26-year-old woman on Tuesday, Magistrate Mark Millington said she had left the Princess for dead in what she described as a “planned, deliberate and intentional act”.

The sentence was composed of a prison term of 10 months for the animal cruelty offense and two months for other matters.

The woman was also banned from owning an animal for 10 years.

RSPCA WA Inspector Manager Kylie Green said the case was one of the most distressing she had seen.

“(It) was a cruel and extremely confronting display of animal cruelty,” he said.

“Dogs can be so trusting, and they rely on their owners to keep them safe. I can’t think of a more disgusting betrayal of that trust.

The woman’s partner, who was present during the incident, was fined $2,500 and banned from owning animals for three years for not seeking care for the Princess.
