Williams Lake SPCA looking for donations as pet food bank runs low

Williams Lake SPCA put out a call to help replenish parts of its food bank.

When it comes to pet food, one week the need is high and the next is the opposite, which makes it difficult to plan.

The manager, Elizabeth Dighton says that orders are made, but she takes funds away from the animals in care that need them, making community donations that much more important.

“We always need donations, that’s a given, and whenever we’re low, I usually spread the word through our Facebook page and the response from the community has been overwhelming.”

“At this time, our greatest need is dry and wet cat food for our community food bank.”

As for worrying about a shortage during the holidays, Dighton says it’s a catch-22, because while people are saving for the holidays, people are also more generous.

Other donations needed include winter supplies such as ice melt, cleaning supplies, Q-tips for ear mites with cats, and of course wet food.

Those looking to donate can do so by dropping by the Williams Lake SPCA branch, and they are open Tuesday through Saturday from 12pm to 3pm.
