Vitus Mythique For Kids Gives Young MTB Shredders Capable Mini 24″ & 26″ Trail Bikes

All mountain bikers want their kids to ride their bikes well. But department store bikes don’t measure up to real riding. Even good quality hardtails aren’t really as fun as you’d hope. The new Vitus Mythique Kids is based directly on the popular and successful aluminum version of the 2023 Vitus Mythic which was just updated last winter (and which in its previous generation earned mentions in both mio 2019 & 2020 Editor’s Choice for its speed and accessibility). Vitus wanted a bike that was “as capable and confidence-inspiring as its adult-sized namesake.”

How did they do it?

To achieve this, Vitus scaled the normal aluminum bike. The resulting bikes get 120mm of rear wheel travel (up from the adults’ 130mm), mated to a 130mm fork on the 16″ bike or a 120mm fork on the 14″ bike for an even lower standover.

Both also maintain fairly progressive geometry. A 66° head angle on the larger bike, with an effective seat tube at 75.5° on both. The size is designed for smaller riders, from 127-158 cm / 4’1″-5’1″ tall.

Technological details

The Kids’ Mythique is a 6061-T6 alloy bike with the same 4-bar suspension design as the adult version. It also maintains the same modern standards, quite surprising for a children’s bike, actually. You get a standard universal derailleur hanger. Tapered head tubes. In addition, Boost spacing, suitable thru-axles, and down tube, chainstay and seatstay protectors.

Unfortunately, Vitus does not build bikes with dropper posts. But there is internal routing for a 31.6mm dropper when it’s time to upgrade your baby.

There is only one complete bike build of each. To that end, they get similar specs built around a wide Box Four 1x 8-speed drivetrain, 160mm Clarks Clout hydraulic disk & 30mm WTB ST i30 internal rims with tubeless tape already installed.

As for specs, the 26″ red bike gets a 130mm SR Suntour Raidon 34 fork and 2.5″ EXO Maxxis Minion tires. While the silver 24″ bike gets a 120mm Manitou J-Unit 34 Expert fork, and an Enduro 2.4″ Vee Flow Snap tire.

Both bikes retail for the same suggested price of £1600 / $2000.
