Two-alarm fire breaks out under Atlantic City’s Garden Pier

ATLANTIC CITY — A two-alarm fire broke out Wednesday under the Boardwalk at Garden Pier, Fire Chief Scott Evans said.

The Fire Department arrived at South New Jersey Avenue and the Boardwalk at 12:40 p.m. for a report of a fire, Evans said. The fire came from trash and burning debris under the pier.

“Firefighters had to crawl under the Boardwalk, under the beams, to find the location of the fire,” he said.

Evans said strong winds on Wednesday pushed the fire, which caused “some damage” to the Boardwalk.

By 1:30 pm, the Fire Department had the fire under control. Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire, Evans said.
