The community of Buffalo has once again been paralyzed by a lake effect snowstorm. This is hard because of the powerful winds, which have caused intense whiteout conditions and heavy snowfall across the region.
The most affected areas include South Buffalo, West Seneca, Hamburg, Orchard Park, East Aurora, Angola, etc. However, the heavy snow band spent only a short period of time north of Buffalo (mainly overnight and early morning).
Because of this and the minimum snowfall totals, the governor of New York, Kathy Hochul, announced that the travel ban in the northern cities has been lifted.
That includes Grand Island, Amherst, Clarence, Tonawanda and Newstead. Travel advisories are still in place.
However, the travel ban is still in effect for the city of Buffalo and the southern cities, which includes Orchard Park, which is where the Bills playoff game will be played on Monday afternoon at 4:30 pm.
Hochul says that the conditions, while not perfect, will not involve the conditions for life on Monday afternoon as they will on Sunday and Saturday. It will be very cold, windy but without heavy snow and too strong winds.
Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz says the game will go ahead as scheduled, but that not all of the stadium’s lots will be cleared of snow in time. Carpooling is strongly encouraged, as there will be less parking available than usual.
This is all good news. However, the snow band is still pummeling the southern countries and the event is not over yet. I hope that the ban for the southern cities will be lifted tonight or very early Monday morning, but Poloncarz was not optimistic that it will come tonight.
