Town on eastern strip of Costa del Sol gets tough with pet owners

Rincón de la Victoria, in the eastern part of the Costa del Sol, has announced that it will start fining dog owners who do not clean up after their animals from February. Councilor Lola Ramos explained that this is to match the stool samples that are not collected from the dogs on the municipal register.

Ramos said that the owners should dilute the urine with water and that the municipality gave bottles and bags to collect the excrement.

The mayor of Rincon de la Victoria Francisco Salado said: “These measures will mean an improvement of the roads.” He added that the importance of registering dogs can also help “avoid the fraudulent use of microchips, theft and abandonment.” Salado also said that “Rincón de la Victoria was the first municipality of Malaga [province] to implement DNA identification”.
