Top tips for holidaying with your pet

It’s shaping up to be a busy summer for Victorians, but preparing for a holiday with four-legged family members with you can be tough.

Preparation is key when considering taking your pet on your holiday getaway with you, according to the RSPCA.

A spokesperson said securing accommodation for pets was important

“I think that, more and more, housing allows you to take your pet.

“The main thing to think about if you bring your pet, is to make sure that it is also what is right for them.

“Make sure your pet is comfortable to travel the distance it has to travel, and [that it is] happy to go by car.

“It is also very important that people update the microchip details to ensure that if the animal is lost, [the vet or person who finds the pet] can contact you.

“In addition to this, when you take your pet on vacation, make sure you take his medication, and that you can contain it when you need it.”

The spokesperson said that making sure your pet is kept hydrated, ensuring their safety by ensuring, and not leaving an animal without fresh air if you make a stop were important factors to keep in mind when traveling with an animal in a car.

For air travel, it was important to think about whether the animal can handle the long distance and the loud noises.

“The companies that operate those services [of flying with pets] they have pretty clear standards,” he said.

“Make sure [the pet] has water, and that consider the flight time so that they are in their cages for as little time as possible.

“Also talk to your vet, and see what they can recommend for your particular pet.

“If you have a very stressed animal, it might be better, and it’s okay, to leave them at home if the trip is going to be too stressful for them.”
