There were many highs, lows and whoas in the year 2023, but one thing was consistent: PEOPLE readers loved their pets and other people’s pets — and couldn’t get enough content about them.

As the year draws to a close, we look back at some of the pet moments that caught our attention in 2023 – from Selma BlairVarious excursions with his dedicated service dog Scout, to Wally the day of the emotional support alligator in a hockey game.

Molson the Golden Retriever gets a real puppy companion

A golden retriever in Hawaii received the gift of life when his family decided to find him a friend.

Molson had always carried a stuffed dog named Kelsie with him since he was separated from his siblings as a puppy. His owners noticed that Molson formed an immediate attachment to the toy, which the owners gave the puppy so as not to miss his brothers and sisters.

After watching their four-legged friend chase the toy for more than two years, the Deverys decided to make Molson a real-life companion in the form of a puppy named Posie, who resembles the favorite toy Molson.

HA now viral video posted by Jasmine Devery, 16, shows the two pups coming together: Molson gently drops Kelsie the stuffed animal, her tail wagging furiously, as she snuggles up to her sweet new sister.






Wally, the Emotional Support Alligator, gets his moment in the Spotlight

Wally the emotional support alligator had left the year. The Internet’s favorite reptile made waves in September when it was entry denied at Citizens Bank Stadium, home of the Philadelphia Phillies baseball team.

Unfortunately, stadium policy states that only “guide dogs, service animals or service animals in training are welcome” and “all other animals are prohibited“, thus ruling out Wally as both an “emotional support animal” and an alligator.

However, the small reptile he had his crowning moment in another ball game. In November, the mascot of the Philadelphia Flyers, Gritty, appeared with Wally during the NHL team’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes. Gritty brought the alligator during the “Lion King Cam” segment of the hockey game — where hockey fans at the Wells Fargo Center hold their kids like baby Simba in hopes of getting on the jumbotron.

The funny moment between Gritty and Wally (belonging to Pennslyvania native Joie Henney) made the Instagram of the mascot.

Travis Kelce may have swept Taylor Swift off her feet in recent months, but every Swiftie knows that her three cats have had her heart for a while.

Bayley is the “Spitting Image” of Snoopy

An adorable mini sheepadoodle stole the hearts of many animal lovers when he went viral for his striking resemblance to the famous cartoon dog Snoopy in April.

The beautiful face of the one-year-old boy caught the eye of the Instagram account Doodle Dogs Clubwho then shares a photo of the dog next to a shot of the cartoon character from Peanuts.

“Encounter @Bayley.Sheepadoodlespitting image of Snoopy!” the caption read. “With those big ears and that button nose, Bayley is the perfect real-life version of our favorite cartoon dog.”

Bayley’s official Instagram account also jumped into the comment section of the post, writing, “😳 It’s me 🥰😁 Hi 🐾 everyone ❤️ Thank you @doodledogsclub to put my photos together. You are a paw 🐾 a bit😘”

Since then the picture has accumulated more than a million likes.

Chris Evans he’s Captain America to most, but it seems that one of his personal heroes is his four-legged boss, Dodger.

A UK animal shelter has revealed they have rescued a six-legged female spaniel back in September.

The dog was “sent to a local veterinary practice” on September 27 after she was found abandoned in the car park at the Pembroke Dock site of garden store chain B&M.

Greenacres Rescue Pembrokeshire – the shelter that took in the sweet puppy – he wrote on Facebook that after running some tests, they found that, “inside [the dog] it’s normal’ and ‘her organs are all as they should be’.

“We have no idea why she would be born with a defect,” said Mikey Lawlor of Greenacres Newsweek. “Never seen this before.”

Lawlor added that the shelter named the puppy Ariel after that The Little Mermaid character because his “extra legs look like a tail”.

At the time of reporting, Ariel was adjusting well to her foster home while the rescue assessed what medical intervention she needed next.
