A mother and daughter were horrified to see a huge snake grab their cat in a suburban backyard with the attack caught on CCTV.

In footage posted on social media on Thursday, a cat is seen relaxing in the backyard of a property in Buderim on the Sunshine Coast when the mother comes out alarmed that the huge snake has snuck up behind.

As it screams, the snake grabs the cat’s back, causing the frightened animal to run into the house while dragging the reptile away – leading to screams of horror from a girl inside.

The footage was posted on the Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7 Facebook page by business founder Stuart McKenzie, who said it was one of the “craziest videos” he had ever seen.

Mr McKenzie revealed the mother and daughter managed to detach the snake from their pet and get the carpet python back outside before calling it.

“Luckily they were able to get the snake off the cat, the cat got away for a little while and the snake, we ended up relocating – it was curling up behind his barbecue,” McKenzie said.

“This is one of the craziest videos you’ll ever see.”

The business’s Facebook page also praised the homeowners.

“Honestly, mother and daughter were so brave and did an amazing job,” read the video’s caption.

After being picked up by a snake handler, the carpet python was released into the bush

“It was a great effort to help the cat and not hurt the snake.”

A short clip shows the python on the back porch with the mother scrambling to the side of the house to get away from him.

Mr McKenzie later took a video of the python curled up in a catch bag.

“Now, obviously, it’s a tough situation if a pet is ever bitten by a carpet python, but they did the right thing, they were able to safely remove the snake from the cat, remove the coils from the cat and the snake tried to sleep. off,” said Mr McKenzie.

The python was released in the bush.

“Come on, friend, don’t take any more animals for fun,” he said to the reptile as he left.
