Sand Springs firefighter hosting bike race benefit for woman battling cancer | News

SAND SPRINGS, Okla. – Sand Springs Firefighter Captain Raymond Hall hosted a bike ride for his wife last year after she was diagnosed with stage three colon cancer.

This year, Hall said he wanted to contribute the same gesture he did for his wife, for the Cartwright family.

Amber Cartwright, a mother of two who was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer in October 2022.

Hall’s goal is to help the Cartwrights financially so they can focus on being a normal family.

“In our first meeting, we found out that she and her family, she has two teenage children and her husband, have never been able to go on a family vacation,” Hall said. “We hope to one, help them with the financial burdens that have passed and two, we hope that they build and send on vacation. Something that they can, you know, some memories that they can build.”

Hall said he wants to continue organizing the bike races each year to help those with colon cancer and to remind families battling cancer that they are not alone.

“We have to do this every year, next year we have to find a new beneficiary,” Hall said. “It raises community awareness and only helps one person like once every year.”

Hall’s goal is not only to raise money for the Cartwright family, but to raise awareness of how important early detection of colon cancer is for quick and successful treatment.
