Prince Edward’s curious cat tie steals the show at King Charles’ garden party

The sun shone and the scones sizzled at the first Buckingham Palace Garden Party of the year hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla on wednesday

Accompanying the King and Queen, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh they were also on hand to welcome around 8,000 guests to the grounds of the royal residence in recognition of their service to local communities, charities, the military and other organisations.

Looks resplendent in pastel pink, Duchess Sophie was a vision of elegance in Suzannah London’s ‘Fontaine’ silk crepe dress, teaming her candy dress with a fabulous Jane Taylor fashion hat.

Her husband Prince Edward looked equally strong in pinstripe trousers, a gray waistcoat and a smart black tailcoat.

It’s not the first time that Prince Edward has shown off his curious collection of cat ties.

The father-of-two debuted the same tie in a different color on his wedding day in 1999, opting for a lilac silk tie printed with purple and yellow cats.

Keeping his look perfect at more royal weddings, the Duke wore another cat-print accessory to his niece Zara Tindall’s rehearsal dinner ahead of her wedding to Mike Tindall.

In 2018, the royal pulled out the Siamese cat silk ties again for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding, opting for a romantic cream tie printed with yellow cats.

Prince Edward has never revealed the reason for his peculiar penchant for feline-centric accessories, nor is it known whether the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh have cats at home in their 120-room mega mansion in Bagshot Park, Surrey.

He is not alone in his love for playful links, however. The brother of Prince Edward Charles also boasts a colorful collection of dinosaur print ties from Hermes, which is believed to have been a gift to him from his grandchildren, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
