Pet Project: PSPCA hosting adoption event for long-term shelter dogs

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – While some shelter dogs find their forever homes right away, others may spend weeks, months or even years waiting to be adopted.

To help some of its longtime residents find their perfect family, the Pennsylvania SPCA hosts a “Lonely Hearts Club” adoption event. on Monday, February. 19 from noon to 6:30 pm

All dogs available for adoption at this event, located at the PSPCA’s Philadelphia headquarters at 350 East Erie Avenue, have been in the PSPCA shelter for over a year and have a history of being very good boys and girls .

Adoption fees for all dogs will be waived, although standard adoption procedures will still be followed.

Animal advocate Carol Erickson says adoption counselors, volunteer friends and the PSPCA’s behavior team will be on site to answer any questions and help decide which one of the dogs to adopt. adoption is suitable for your family.

“A lot of these dogs don’t show up well in the shelter,” Erickson explained. “They can be very barky, they can be shy, they can just be depressed because they’ve literally been through so many times.”

Bear, a 6-year-old retriever and pointer mix, loves to be the center of attention and play with tennis balls.

Casey, a 6-year-old pit bull mix, is a “little pocket pit” who loves joining happy hours.

And Roland, a 5-year-old pit bull mix, is looking for a family to take him on lots of hikes.
