NEW BEDFORD — Thallo – Home and Gardenowned by Marisa Chappell, opened its doors in March 2023, bringing some green year-round to downtown.
Located at 200 Union St., the name Thallo, which means “the goddess of spring and new growth” in Greek mythology, perfectly captures the essence of the shop. Offers a wide selection of houseplants, herbs, green plants, blankets, ornaments, animal themed items, healthy dog treats, candles, soaps, lotions, gardening tools and terrariums.
“I love having a store in New Bedford,” Chappell said. “I’ve never lived in an urban environment, so getting downtown every day is so exciting!”
Chappell has always had a love for flora and fauna. He spent his childhood learning to grow and maintain vegetable gardens and compost. Her passion for plants grew stronger over the years, leading her to take courses in horticulture, botany and permaculture at various schools.
