Neptune Beach Police Department posted signs to stop “dangerous operations of e-bikes”

NEPTUNE BEACH, Fla. – Tea Neptune Beach The Police Department has posted signs to make sure residents riding electric bikes and regular bikes know the traffic laws.

Rosemary Naughton, who lives on First Street, said people ride e-bikes fast.

“It’s a dangerous situation that’s about to turn into a real catastrophe,” Naughton said.

Kierstyn Jennings lives in Neptune Beach and said she was almost hit while walking.

“Well, I was going to the beach earlier today and they might have hit us when we were going to the beach. It’s not a big deal, but they go really fast and I feel like they should always obey the traffic laws because they have motors on them Jennings said.

NBPD posted signs to remind people on e-bikes and regular bikes to obey all traffic laws and not to go faster than 15 mph.

This comes months after the police department announced it was conducting several traffic enforcement campaigns on First Street to curb “dangerous e-bike operations.”

Residents said they are excited the signs were put up, but wish they were more noticeable. Maybe if it was a different color, or if it was bigger or if it had flashing lights attached.

Naughton said she wants people on electric bikes to stop driving straight through stop signs.

“My concern is that somebody is going to get really hurt. A human being is going to get really hurt,” Naughton said.

Which is something he said should not happen.

NBPD made a Facebook post about signs and obeying traffic laws. They also said that anyone who violates the rules is subject to a fine of $62.50.
