Hawkseye pet costume contest benefits Humane Animal Partners

Sunny skies and unseasonably warm weather made for perfect conditions when the Hawkseye community in Lewes held its inaugural pet costume contest on October 28.

The Hawkseye Social Committee held the event to raise funds and awareness for Humane Animal Partners Delaware.

Serving as judges were HAP volunteers Wesley and Connie Paulson, and community resident Kim Hoey Stevenson. Animals were judged in three different categories.

The funniest costume honor went to Sophie, whose humans are Phil Hutchison and Kath Supplee. The award for most creative costume went to Maddie, daughter of Chuck and Stephanie Smolka.

Best overall costume was awarded to Lewey, accompanied by family member Katie Resnick.

Additional winners of the contest were Claire James, who made the closest guess for the weight of a pumpkin; Kendall Speakman with the closest guess about the number of candy grains in a jar; and Cora Hershelman, who won the chrysanthemum drawing.
