According to the Garden City Police Department, severe weather, including strong winds, began moving into the city at 3:30 p.m.

Shortly thereafter, the GCPD Communications Center began receiving reports of damage, power outages and funnel sightings, which led to the activation of tornado sirens in Garden City.

“Fire, police and EMS personnel responded to assess reported damage to residential, commercial and industrial properties immediately east of US Highway 83/north of the Arkansas River at approximately Schulman Avenue ,” the GCPD said.

Upon arrival at the scene, first responders found damage consistent with very strong winds.

First responders are checking on the welfare of Garden City residents, and Garden City and Finney County Public Works and Utilities are working to restore power and remove debris.

The GCPD says no injuries have been reported at this time, and the amount of damage done is currently unknown.

Any displaced resident can call the GCPD at 620-276-1300.

The GCPD held a briefing at 7:30 pm on Sunday. Visit their Facebook page to watch
