Flowers replace colours as Holi gets pet-friendly | Ahmedabad News

Pets and Holi usually don’t go well together. Looking at the risk of colors, injuries from water balloons and insensitive revellers, the pawrents get extra protection from their canine companions and just like that, they keep away from the celebrations. But things will be different this year, with the dogs getting their share Holi fun in a unique bash without colors. There will be treats, peppy music, playtime and lots of fun.

“Holi is a fun festival where everyone comes together and plays with colors. We want pet dogs in the city to also experience it and decided to organize Paw’li,” said Ashish G, co-partner in Doggers Park which will host the event in its sprawling grounds on Sunday evening.

“The dogs will be showered with flower petals during the celebrations. No colour, organic or otherwise, will be put on them. We will also play Holi songs and happy music at the party,” said Ashish. And to add more fun to the celebrations, dogs will also be allowed to have a splash in the pool.

About 55 dogs will attend the Holi party with their owners. “We also organized this festival last year with a smaller number of animals, but the response we got was tremendous. Many pet owners showed interest in celebrating Holi with their dogs. So, this year we decided to organize it on a bigger scale. We all play Holi with our family and friends and this festival is our way of expressing that dogs are also our family,” he added.
