Flower Lovers Garden Club | Journal Review

The Flower Lovers Garden Club will meet in St John’s social hall at 1pm on April 3rd. Thirty one members were present and three invited. President Karen Cook called the business meeting to order.

The first point for discussion was the first May trip to Westfield. Lunch will be at The Mash House at 11am followed by a tour of Sundown Gardens and Eagleson Meadows. A sign-up sheet has been passed around to get a number of members who plan to attend.

The next item for discussion was to determine if any members were interested in being co-chairs for Garden Walk 2025. The June meeting will be the Picnic and Plant Auction in Milligan Park in the North Shelter starting at 11 a.m. There will be a pitch -in lunch followed by an auction of the plants provided by the members.

A prayer was said by Karen Cook before refreshments. Hostesses were Linda Crispin, Donna Walton, Deb Borowsky and Marty Heinold. Crispin made a model of the eclipse for each table.

After refreshments, Paula Furr distributed eclipse glasses to each member and our guests. Cook introduced guest speaker Karen Thada. It had a slide show of the different stages of the eclipse and a map of the best viewing areas in addition to the duration of the total eclipse in those areas. Thada’s presentation provided a wealth of information on solar and lunar eclipses. After the presentation, the business meeting continued.

Members with birthdays in April were recognized.

Discussion topics began with participation in the flower contest at the Farmers Market. It was decided that we would not participate in the flower contest because we would keep the flower pots of the center. The members decided that we do not care for a garden plot in Lew Wallace since we donated a bench in 2021.

Plans are underway to select a Garden of the Month for June, July and August. One garden has been selected with two more to be confirmed. Gardens will be chosen that can be easily seen from the street.

A thank you card from Anita Arnold was shared.

The final item of business was from Dorothy Fogel who wanted to confirm that all members were on the email thread.

The next business meeting will be on July 3rd in the St. John’s social hall at 1 pm If anyone is interested in the Flower Lovers’ Garden Club, you are invited to attend a meeting as a guest .
