Advances of the house EXPLORE, BOLT Act

Lawmakers on the House Natural Resources Committee unanimously approved the Expanding Public Lands Outdoor Recreation Experiences Act (ESPLORA). The Act is an outdoor recreation package that includes the Biking on Long Distance Trails Act (BOLT), and other measures to protect Wilderness hiking, modernize recreation permits for guides, and funding for parks in “neighborhoods that need them the most,” according to a press release. Outdoor Alliance is asking those who support it to keep the bill moving and send a memo to lawmakers.

Pittsfield, Massachusetts

The plans for a pump track in Pittsfield are still waiting more than two years after a positive support from the Parks Commission of the city. A revised memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the city, NEMBA, Shire Shredders, and Berkshire Mountain Bike Training Series Inc. still needs approval, according to The Berkshire Eagle. The proposed agreement requires the groups to raise funds for the project plus additional funds for maintenance and deconstruction in the event the park is no longer active after ten years.
