Esposito’s Garden Center cleans up after Wednesday storm, flooding

Esposito’s Garden Center is still recovering from Wednesday’s storms that dumped several inches of rain and caused pockets of flooding throughout Tallahassee and the Big Bend.

Located on Capital Circle Northeast, the rear of the property suffered the most damage when two on-site creeks burst into bloom. The area beyond the bridge near the set was submerged, which includes trees and shrubs.

The impact of the storm comes at the busiest time of the year. The cleanup and recovery could take one to two weeks, said Mary Rock, general manager of Esposito’s.

“The decks were under water, so you couldn’t even see the decks in the back of the property,” Rock said Friday morning. “You can see where the water broke through and the creek.”

Severe flooding caused damage to the Esposito Garden Center after Wednesday's storm dumped several inches of rain on Tallahassee.

It’s not uncommon for flooding to occur in Esposito after heavy rain, Rock said, but this was beyond normal. He could not say for certain the estimated cost of damages; she and the staff are still being evaluated.

“We’re always pulling things out of the mud and out of the creek,” Rock said. “It will be a great match for us, that’s for sure.”
