Chewy pet supplies giveaway at Code Compliance and Animal Protection

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Code Compliance and Animal Protection in Bowling Green received a truckload of pet supplies from Chewy.com, the online pet supply retailer. The city gave away all of its supplies to people who entered their names into its database.

Many people have struggled to afford pets, many of which have increased in price due to inflation. This has made it difficult for many people to allow their animals and has been a driver in the crisis levels of many humane societies in the United States.

Brad Schargorodski, the Code Compliance and Animal Protection Division Manager, was happy to be able to help people take care of their pets.

“The city understands that there are a lot of pet owners and, you know, individuals here in the city that are struggling financially. And so we’re hoping to offset a lot of that and provide these free pet supplies, working with our partners of the community,” Schargorodski said.

For others in the Code Compliance office, like Pam Boose the administration specialist, it was a great way to engage with community members.

“That’s my bread and butter. I love talking to people and interacting with the public and anything we can do to try to help them or help them solve a problem, you know, that’s really why we’re here. I mean, I know that a lot of people think that code enforcement is all about issuing citations and fines and things like that. But we from our perspective, it’s more about education work,” said Boose.

The office received over 1,000 entries for the items they received this year and were happy to fill the order.
