British Cycling unveil the track bike they hope will carry them to gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics

British Cycling, in partnership with Team GB, has revealed the new bikes the team will be riding next. Paris Olympic Games.

The new bike is based on the revolutionary Hope-Lotus track bike that Team GB used at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. This latest generation of Hope-Lotus bikes received input from British Cycling’s in-house expert team and the external collaboration of Hope Tech, Renishaw and Lotus Engineering.

Although the silhouette of the bike might be similar to the impressive bike that was first launched four years ago, there have been some significant developments. At the front of the bike, the wide fork has been redesigned to incorporate a wavy profile at the trailing edge in an attempt to further increase the aerodynamic efficiency of the bike and the rider.

Further down on the bike, a new one 3D printed titanium Crankset can be found that was designed and manufactured by Renishaw.

In a press release before the launch of the bike, British Cycling said: “Every component of the bike has been designed to work as one with the rider, bringing together the machine and the athlete perfectly. Once again, the our partners have come together at every stage of development, testing and manufacturing to condense the project into a three-year Olympic cycle.

Ben Collins, Lead Additive Manufacturing Application Engineer at Renishaw said: “We were able to refine the design even further and demonstrate how additive manufacturing can deliver strong, yet lightweight parts for cycling, while demonstrating these benefits to other industries.”

“Our goal for this Olympic bike is to push the boundaries with AM technology even further, while still achieving high-performance components that are suitable for riders and meet the Olympic strength and weight requirements.”

The Hope-Lotus track bike is a culmination of British engineering which has been supported by Sport UK and National Lottery funding. Also contributing to the design of the bike is the UK Institute of Sport which has worked closely alongside British Cycling and the Team GB cycling team to research and develop the design of the bike.
