Blue Ridge Beef recalls pet food in NY, PA

Blue Ridge Beef recalls pet food in NY PASTATESVILLE, NC – Blue Ridge Beef has recalled several lot numbers of Kitten Grind, Kitten Mix and Puppy Mix due to possible salmonella and listeria monocytogenes contamination.

The pet food was sold in several states, including New York and PA.

Affected are Blue Ridge products with use-by dates between November 14 and December 24, 2023 of their two-pound logo of Kitten Grind UPC 8 54298 00101 6; two-pound logo of Kitten Mix, UPC 8 54298 00143 6; and two pound logo of Puppy Mix, UPC 8 54298 00169 6.

Salmonella and listeria can affect animals that eat the products, and there is a risk to humans from handling contaminated animal products, especially if people have not properly washed their hands or surfaces the house after contact with the products.

Healthy people infected with salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever. Rarely, salmonella can result in more serious illnesses, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers who show these signs after coming into contact with this product should contact their health care providers.

Animals with salmonella and listeria infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Some animals only have decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain.

Infected but otherwise healthy animals can be carriers and infect other animals or humans.

If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, contact your veterinarian.

No illness has been reported to date.

The products were distributed between November 14, 2023 and December 20, 2023.

Consumers who have purchased these products are encouraged to contact Blue Ridge Beef at blueridgebeefnc@yahoo.com for a full refund and destroy the food so that children, pets and wildlife cannot access it. Do not sell or donate the recalled products. Do not feed the recalled product to pets or any other animals. Wash and disinfect pet food bowls, cups and containers. Always be sure to wash and sanitize your hands after handling the recalled food or any utensils that come into contact with the recalled food.
