Viking Tour Bike Ride moving to June

Since its inception in 2016, Poulsbo Rotary’s Viking Tour Bike Ride has grown so much that organizers are looking to hold its own event in June rather than during Viking Fest in May.

The event features various bike routes through Poulsbo. There is also a beer garden with live music after the bike rides with local food options. In 2023, 750 people participated, with 420 riders exploring one of three different routes, 230 participants in the beer garden, and 60 volunteers supporting the event. The event has raised $150,000 over the past eight years for the Poulsbo Rotary Foundation. Funds go back into the community as scholarships, grants and other projects, City Council documents read.

This year, the Rotary hopes to move the event to June 15 and also move the brewery and live music to Waterfront Park. Previously, it was held at various locations including Fishline, City Hall and Poulsbo Village. Organizers said the move to Waterfront Park is necessary because the event needs more space, but also to attract more participants to spend an entire weekend in Poulsbo. Additionally, the change will ensure that the event will not compete with Viking Fest.

This June, the Rotary plans to collaborate with downtown businesses for food and offer a beer garden in collaboration with local suppliers of beer, wine and cider, documents read. Live local music will help draw not only the cyclists, but others who want to join in the fun. Organizers said potential parking for the event would be at The Doctors Clinic, Poulsbo Village and Gateway Fellowship.

The board gave the Rotary oral approval to move forward with the beer garden at Waterfront Park.

“I’m glad they’re thinking of moving away from Viking Fest because it’s gotten big enough, and it’s probably time for it to stand on its own,” said councilman Gary McVey. “I think Waterfront Park would be a wonderful place for him.”
