Spending by domestic visitors is expected to grow by 5% from last year to reach 11.7 billion dinars, or 0.7% before 2019, while spending by international visitors is expected to grow by more than 12% to reach almost 11 billion dinars, according to WTTC. .

The WTTC also predicts that the sector could increase its annual contribution to GDP to more than 32 billion dinars by 2034.

The latest WTTC data shows that in terms of economic contribution, the number of jobs and spending by domestic visitors, travel and tourism are expected to surpass all previous records in 2024.

“A 16% increase in the annual contribution of the tourism sector to the Tunisian economy is expected if this sector is supported, which will ensure the employment of more than 485,000 people in 2034.”according to the same source.

Julia Simpson, President and CEO of WTTC, said: “The Tunisian travel and tourism sector is almost fully recovered, although spending by international visitors continues to fall.” “We are confident that Tunisia’s resilient sector will continue to thrive and play a vital role in the country’s economic future”he added.

Simpson also highlighted that the restoration of the Higher Council of Tourism by the Tunisian government will also help the travel and tourism sector to achieve these forecasts, as it brings together public and private operators.
