Fire in West Allis leads to hospitalization and pet rescue

WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) – Responders believe a candle left burning unexpectedly ignited a residential fire near 71st and Orchard on Sunday, January. 28 in West Allis, resulting in one person being hospitalized.

West Allis Fire Department officials say the fire broke out in a 2.5-story home.

The fire department was notified of the fire shortly before 9:30 pm and arrived at the scene within three minutes. Officers confirmed fire showing from second story windows upon arrival. The fire was contained within 10 minutes, and a search confirmed that no occupants were trapped inside.

One person, however, was transported to Columbia Saint Mary’s Hospital in Milwaukee for burns.

Two animals were rescued from the site, but their current condition remains unconfirmed, according to West Allis Fire Department officials.

A report from WAFD says the property is currently considered uninhabitable. Fire damage was limited to a room on the second floor and part of the attic, although the entire structure sustained water and smoke damage.
